February 13: Opening Liberation Route

On February 13, RCL Branch 005 was invited to the opening of the exhibition “Routes of Liberation”. It was a great honour to be allowed as President, along with Martin van de Poel, on behalf of RCL Branch 005, to attend this event. All this happened in the heart of Europe, the European Parliament in Brussels, where the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and our Prime Minister Mark Rutte opened the exhibition “Routes of Liberation; European Legacies of, or the Second World War”.

A Dutch initiative with international allure. This year marks an important moment to reflect on the horrors of war and the liberation. Soldiers of all nationalities have fought and lost their lives to liberate Europe from the Nazis. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Allies who arrived from England through Normandy to the Netherlands and brought the liberation, where everybody so ardently longed to. On February 20, 2014, the exhibition starts in Arnhem in the Eusebius church. Then it travels further throughout Europe.
