Forgotten 450

13 Forgotten 450

The “450” commemorations, also sometimes referred to as “the forgotten graves” are held at the gravesites of Allied soldiers in our country. This in particular at those remote locations in the Netherlands where a general memorial service is rarely or never held.

A meaningful tradition which nevertheless should be maintained and to which our branch should make a contribution. They are a special group of Canadians who are buried in our country of which little is known to the general public.

In 1988 the name was officially changed by the Royal British Legion Holland branch to: “The 450 Remembrance Service”. This in response to the comments from people from the smaller towns where annually a commemoration was held in respect to our liberators.
